Frequently Asked Questions About Menstrual Discs and Cups
Frequently asked questions about
AllMatters Menstrual Cups
What is the difference between an AllMatters cup and an AllMatters disc?
AllMatters menstrual cup and AllMatters menstrual disc are both reusable, environmentally friendly menstrual products, but they differ in shape, position in the body, and some usage characteristics.
The menstrual cup is V-shaped and inserted low in the vagina, below the cervix. It is perfect for both beginners and those seeking reliable daily protection. It can be used for up to 12 hours and is easy to insert and remove after a little practice. The cup cannot be used during sexual intercourse.
Meanwhile, the menstrual disc is flat and inserted deeper – behind the cervix. It can even be worn during sexual intercourse as it does not bother your partner. The disc holds more fluid (up to ~50 ml), making it ideal for heavier periods or active users. Although its insertion may require a bit more practice, the disc offers more freedom and flexibility.
The cup is an excellent solution for those looking for classic, reliable protection, while the disc is suitable for those who want more capacity, flexibility, and the option to use it during intimacy.
Can girls who have just started their period use a menstrual cup?
A menstrual cup can be used during your first period. The vaginal muscles of young girls tend to be more tense, which can make inserting the cup difficult, so more practice may be needed at first. If you feel uncomfortable, don't worry immediately, just take a break, relax and try again.
How should I care for my menstrual cup?
After each removal, rinse the cup with warm water. If necessary, use a mild, unscented soap or intimate cleanser (e.g., AllMatters "OrganiWash"). Avoid strong chemicals, oily or antibacterial soaps.
Sterilize the cup again, just as you did before the first use. Afterwards, dry it completely and store it in a breathable pouch (e.g., cotton), not in a plastic container.
What size should I use?
The difference between AllMatters cup sizes A and B is very small (size A is 0.4 cm smaller than size B).
Every woman's vagina is completely unique, so a cup will never be a "one-size-fits-all" product. Therefore, AllMatters offers pre- and post-birth cup sizes. Even if you haven't noticed a difference after childbirth, your vagina should not return to its pre-birth state.
If you need a smaller size than A, you can use Mini.

What should I do if the cup is uncomfortable for me?
It's important that you use the correct cup size for you, and it's also important that the cup is in the right and comfortable position for you. It may take some time for your body to get used to the cup in the vagina.
If you experience discomfort while using it, there could be several reasons:
- The cup's position is not optimal for your body; in this case, you should change the angle/height.
- You scratched the inside of your vagina while inserting/removing the cup.
- Check if you haven't inserted the cup too high, as this would cause discomfort. If this happened, remove the cup and reinsert it, making sure it is below your cervix.
When inserted correctly, the cup should not cause any discomfort.
What should I do if my cup leaked?
If your cup is leaking, it might be incorrectly inserted.
Reasons why this might happen:
- The cup did not open fully.
Once you've inserted the cup, squeeze your pelvic floor muscles; this will help create a suction effect. Also, after inserting the cup, try running a finger around the rim of the cup to ensure it has fully opened.
- Excess menstrual blood remained in the vagina.
When you've inserted the cup, wipe your finger along the edges of the cup to remove any excess blood.
- The cup was inserted at the wrong angle.
Insert the cup at a 45-degree angle towards your spine, as this should be the natural position of your vaginal canal.
- Improperly placed.
The cup should be positioned slightly lower than a regular tampon. Your cervix is not necessarily at the very top of the vaginal canal. It might be tilted at an angle or slightly to the side. Also, it can shift slightly up or down during your cycle. If the top of your cup is above your cervix, there is a greater chance of leakage. So you need to locate your cervix; it's a slightly firmer tissue inside your vagina.
- The air holes are blocked.
Make sure the 4 small air holes are not blocked, as this can hinder a good seal. To clean the holes:
- Clean the air holes with a small brush.
- Fill the cup with warm water, cover the top of the cup with your palm, and with the other hand, press its base; the water should flow out through the blocked holes, thus clearing them.
I had trouble inserting the cup, how do I do it correctly?
Inserting a menstrual cup correctly takes time, patience, and practice. We recommend trying a few methods to find the one that works best for you. It may be easier to do so with water or a water-based lubricant. It is best to insert the cup by opening the vagina and then gently pushing it into the most suitable position. Once you have done that, try to grasp the stem and gently pull. If you feel slight resistance, the cup has been successfully inserted!
Walk around with the cup – if it's uncomfortable or you simply feel it, try pushing the cup deeper until you no longer feel it. If the stem is causing discomfort, you can shorten it or cut it off completely.
We only suggest completely cutting off the stem if you feel 100% comfortable removing the cup.
For women with strong pelvic floor muscles or a high cervix, after inserting the menstrual cup, it will find another comfortable position for you. For some, the ideal cup position will be high in the vaginal canal. In this case, removing the stem would not be very practical.
I'm having trouble removing my cup, what should I do?
A cup cannot get stuck or simply disappear, but it can move up a little higher. If you are having trouble finding the cup's stem, we suggest trying these steps:
- Relax your body, squat down, and try to remove the cup.
- Sit on the toilet and try to find the cup's stem or rim.
- Try to push the cup with your abdominal muscles, as you do when having a bowel movement.
- If you still cannot remove the cup, try to slide your finger along the rim of the cup, then hook the rim of the cup with your finger.
Once this is done, lower your finger and, with the help of your other fingers, gently remove the cup.
How long can a cup be used?
The cup should be removed every 8-12 hours. The cup holds 3 times more than an XL-sized tampon, so it can be used for a long time during menstruation.
Initially, it is recommended to remove the cup more frequently until you get used to it.
Can a cup be used when bleeding is very heavy?
For women with menorrhagia or very heavy periods, it is advisable to use a cup as it holds 3 times more than an XL-sized tampon.
While you are still getting familiar with your cup and the amount of blood during menstruation, we advise you to remove the cup more frequently to find out how often your cup fills up. If you have a heavy period, you should empty the cup more than twice a day.
Can I exercise (run, swim, horseback ride, do yoga, etc.) while using a menstrual cup?
You definitely can! The cup is a great choice for an active lifestyle, as it holds 3 times more than an XL tampon, so you can swim, run, do yoga, or dive without any worries!
The cup is made of flexible material, so if it is in the correct position, you won't feel it, and it will provide comfortable and leak-proof protection for up to 12 hours.
If I lie down or stand on my hands, can blood flow back into the uterus?
No, it's practically impossible for blood collected in a menstrual cup to flow back into the uterus, even if you're upside down!
You may have noticed that the blood in the cup is quite thick, so it doesn't leak out but remains inside.
So you can confidently lie down or stand on your head.
Can I wear a menstrual cup when traveling?
Exactly! When using a cup, you don't need to change it every 3-4 hours, which can make your trip more comfortable and your backpack lighter. It's enough to change the cup a couple of times a day.
What should I do if I don't have access to clean water or a bathroom? (this is the most common question when discussing menstrual cups while traveling)
Between uses, the cup should be rinsed with cold tap water. However, if you are traveling to a place where you don't have access to clean water, take a bottle of water with you specifically for cleaning the cup, or wet wipes to disinfect your cup. If you didn't bring them on your trip, the cup can be cleaned with a regular tissue, and you can thoroughly clean the cup once you have access to a bathroom and clean water.
Can you pee while wearing a menstrual cup?
Yes, no problem! Urine does not reach the menstrual cup.
The cup is inserted into the vagina, and urine comes from the urethra, so you don't need to remove the cup when you urinate. Unlike tampons, which have a string that can soak up unwanted fluids, you can urinate with a cup without any worries.
Will my hymen remain intact?
Using a cup does not affect the hymen. In fact, the hymen is made of tissue that gradually wears away over time. In the first few years, the hymen grows and stretches from simple things – athletics, other active pursuits, or even just walking. It is important to understand that a girl's/woman's worth is not related to a piece of tissue in the vagina.
Can you have sex while wearing a cup?
You should not use the cup during sexual intercourse, nor should the cup be used as a contraceptive method.
Is it safe to sleep naked with a menstrual cup in?
With a cup, you can sleep naked even during your period.
Can using a menstrual cup cause toxic shock syndrome (TSS)?
TSS is a rare but serious illness. It is caused by Staphylococcus aureus – a bacterium often found on the skin, as well as inside the nose and vagina.
Cases of TSS have also been reported in women using intravaginal contraceptives, menstrual cups, and tampons.
To reduce the risk of TSS, the cup must be washed and used according to the instructions provided by AllMatters.
Symptoms of TSS include sudden fever, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, fainting, a rash that looks like sunburn, and in later stages – peeling skin.
TSS can occur during or a few days after menstruation. If any of the listed symptoms appear, remove the cup and seek medical attention immediately.
Can a menstrual cup be used with a prolapsed uterus or a tilted/retroverted uterus?
In such cases, we recommend consulting your gynecologist, who will advise whether the cup is suitable for you.
When should I change my menstrual cup?
A properly cared for cup can last 5–10 years.
Replace it if you notice cracks, deformation, an unpleasant odor that cannot be removed, or if it loses its elasticity.
Is it possible to replace an AllMatters cup or get a refund?
Based on statistics, it can take up to three months to "get used to" a cup. If, however, after 90 days you decide that the cup size you have is not suitable for you or that the cup is not suitable for you at all, AllMatters (formerly OrganiCup) offers the option to exchange it for a different size or to refund your money.

Frequently asked questions about
AllMatters menstrual disc
How to use a menstrual disc

What is the difference between an AllMatters cup and an AllMatters disc?
The AllMatters menstrual cup and the AllMatters menstrual disc are both reusable, eco-friendly menstrual products, but they differ in shape, placement in the body, and some usage characteristics.
The menstrual disc is flat and inserted deeper – behind the cervix. It can even be worn during sexual intercourse as it does not obstruct the partner. The disc holds more fluid (up to ~50 ml), making it perfect for heavier periods or active users. Although its insertion may require a little more practice, the disc offers more freedom and flexibility.
Meanwhile, the menstrual cup is V-shaped and inserted lower in the vagina, below the cervix. It is perfect for both beginners and those looking for reliable daily protection. It can be used for up to 12 hours and is easy to insert and remove after a little practice. The cup cannot be used during sexual intercourse.
The cup is an excellent solution for those seeking classic, reliable protection, while the disc will suit those who want more capacity, flexibility, and the option to use the product during intimacy.
How to clean a disc between uses?
Rinse with cold water, then wash with a mild soap (preferably a pH-balanced soap, such as AllMatters OrganiWash). Alternatively, boil the disc for 3-5 minutes between cycles or when changing menstrual disc users.
Can I pee with a menstrual disc in?
That's right! A menstrual disc is inserted into the vagina and does not block the urethra or interfere with urination.
How to store a menstrual disc between periods?
Use the accompanying breathable cotton pouch. Avoid airtight containers, as the menstrual disc's silicone must remain dry.
What should I do if it leaked through the disc?
If properly inserted, the disc should not leak. However, if you notice any leakage:
1. Check if its rim is firmly tucked behind your pubic bone.
2. Make sure it has fully unfolded after insertion.
3. Empty it more often if you have a heavy flow.
Can I wear a menstrual disc overnight?
Yes – up to 12 hours. Due to its large capacity, the menstrual disc is ideal for overnight use.
Can I wear a menstrual disc during sex?
Yes, unlike a menstrual cup, a disc can be worn during sexual intercourse. The disc is flexible and high enough to leave room.
My menstrual disc slips out – what am I doing wrong?
Ensure the menstrual disc is fully tucked behind your pubic bone. If it still slips out with movement or bowel pressure, it might not be suitable for your anatomy.
After removing my menstrual disc, there is no blood in it – why?
It is possible that the menstrual disc is in the wrong position or that the cervix is outside the rim. Try adjusting the angle or checking the cervical height.
Does one menstrual disc size fit all?
The AllMatters menstrual disc is designed to fit most anatomical shapes, but some users with very high or low cervixes may experience difficulties with its suitability.
If you are unsure whether the menstrual disc is suitable for you, please email us at labas@menulioseserys.lt and we will be happy to advise you.

Size M – for women over 30 who have given birth and have heavy periods.
Size TEEN – for teenagers, girls with their first period, girls who are not yet sexually active.
Femi.Eko cups are designed to fit all cervix types and have a long stem that can be trimmed to a comfortable length.

How much blood can a menstrual cup hold?
Femi.Eko® menstrual cups can hold:
Size S – max. volume 26 ml.

All women are different, as are their periods. If you experience heavy bleeding, it may be a good idea to empty your menstrual cup more frequently.
Can I use a menstrual cup if I am a virgin?
You can use a menstrual cup if you are a virgin, as when inserted correctly, it will not damage your hymen. The Femi.Eko® menstrual cup for teenagers is specially designed with the anatomy of young girls in mind.
We recommend only the TEEN size cup, as it is a friendly product for first periods, virgins, and teenagers.
If you are a teenager over 18 or have started sexual activity, you can use a size S menstrual cup.
How to insert a menstrual cup?
1. Hygiene is important when we talk about our intimate body parts. Therefore, before using a menstrual cup, wash your hands thoroughly.
2. Fold the disinfected Femi.Eko® menstrual cup into a C shape to make it easier to insert. If this is your first time using a menstrual cup, it will help you breathe and remember that it is normal to try a few times until the cup is properly inserted.
3. Hold the cup in a C-shape and sit in a position where you can easily reach your vaginal opening. You can lift one leg or stand with the other leg on the toilet lid. Whatever works best for you is perfect!
4. With one hand, open your vagina and insert the menstrual cup (still folded, remember?) as deeply as you can into your vagina until it feels comfortable. Don't worry if you don't succeed on the first try. After all, you didn't learn to ride a bike right away, did you? Just relax and try again, trust us!
5. Rotate the menstrual cup inside your vagina to ensure it fully opens and seals properly. This is important because it will ensure there are no leaks for up to 12 hours.
Once your cycle is over, simply wash your menstrual cup, disinfect it, and place it in the special Femi.Eko® pouch that came in the original packaging.
How to remove a menstrual cup?
You can remove your menstrual cup by inserting your finger along the side to release the suction, or by gently pinching the stem (at the bottom of the cup).
Do not pull it out without breaking the vacuum seal with your finger! You just need to push out the menstrual cup using your pelvic floor muscles and press its bottom with your finger to break the seal, then grasp both sides of the menstrual cup with your finger and pull it out with a twisting motion. If done correctly, you will not feel any discomfort or pain.
Removing a menstrual cup can be easy and becomes easier after a few tries. Take your time and don't worry.
What should I do if I can't remove my menstrual cup?
If you cannot remove the menstrual cup, sit down and use your pelvic muscles to push (as if emptying your bowels) and try to remove it again with your fingers.
Don't worry, the cup won't go anywhere, it's still in your vagina and will come out! Just relax completely, take a few deep breaths, and quietly try again.
Be patient and don't be rough. Do not insert harmful objects.
How long can I use a menstrual cup?
You can use a menstrual cup for up to 12 hours; it is recommended to empty it twice a day or every 10–12 hours. If you have heavy bleeding, you should empty it more frequently, as this will help prevent leaks.
How to clean and sterilize a menstrual cup?
The Femi.Eko® menstrual cup must always be cleaned after each use. Sterilize it after each cycle by boiling it in water for 5 minutes, or use the Femi.Eko® sterilizer, which you can find in the accessories section. If you don't have a sterilizer, you can clean your menstrual cup with water and natural soap, remembering to rinse it thoroughly. Hardened blood clots can be carefully removed with a soft brush. If blood gets stuck in the cup's holes, you can fill the Femi.Eko® menstrual cup with water, place it between your palms, and simply squeeze it to force the water through the holes.
Before using your menstrual cup for the first time or between periods, it may be beneficial to sterilize it. Pour water into a pot and bring it to a boil, then for the first use, place the Femi.Eko® menstrual cup in boiling water for up to 10 minutes, and for 5 minutes between periods. If you have a sterilizer, use it. Don't worry: the menstrual cup does not change its properties when boiled, but make sure the water you use doesn't contain too much calcium to avoid calcium deposits.
Do not use harmful chemicals such as tea tree oil, Castile soap, antibacterial soap, conventional hand sanitizers, and other home remedies to clean your menstrual cup, and do not put it in the dishwasher, as this can damage the silicone and lead to infections.
How do you clean a menstrual cup in a public restroom?
Sometimes you may need to empty your menstrual cup in a public toilet. Don't worry about it! Just follow these steps: wash your hands thoroughly, remove the cup, empty the blood into the toilet, rinse the menstrual cup thoroughly with water (you can bring a bottle of water to the toilet with you), reinsert the cup, and wash your hands.
We know that in many public toilets there is no tap next to the toilet, so a water bottle can solve this problem.
Is it normal for a menstrual cup to leak?
The Femi.Eko® menstrual cup is anatomically designed to prevent leakage if inserted and used correctly. However, there may be some exceptions, such as:
– if the menstrual cup is too small
– if the menstrual cup is inserted incorrectly
– if bleeding is too heavy
– if it is not emptied as often as needed.
Please note that the menstrual cup can sometimes shift due to bowel movements or cervical movements, which can cause leakage.
If you can't find a suitable cup, we recommend trying the Femi.Eko® menstrual disc, as it is easy to use and wear from the first time.
Can I use a menstrual cup while exercising?
A menstrual cup is suitable for protecting you during exercise and will give you the freedom to enjoy any sports activity. When inserted correctly, the cup prevents leakage and discomfort. You can dance, attend yoga classes, cycle, run, or jump as you please, the menstrual cup will protect you.
If you want to ensure even greater protection against leakage, you can try reusable Femi.Eko® pads or period panties together with the cup.
Is it normal to feel pain when using a menstrual cup?
The Femi.Eko® menstrual cup is specially designed for comfort, made of very soft medical-grade silicone and has an anatomical shape. You should not feel any pain when using a menstrual cup. The only time you might feel slight discomfort is when you first insert the cup.
In any case, you must be careful not to insert the cup too deeply, although deeply enough to prevent leakage. After a few uses, you will understand what works for you.
Can period pain get worse when using a menstrual cup?
A menstrual cup has nothing to do with period pain or cramps, and in fact, many women experience fewer cramps when using menstrual cups and reusable menstrual products because they are less disruptive to natural bleeding and do not contain bleaching composites, as is often the case with tampons and sanitary pads.
When using a menstrual cup, the natural blood flow is not stopped, and the cup does not absorb blood. It also does not interfere with natural secretions, which, if present, can disrupt the natural menstruation process.
If you suffer from period pain or if it intensifies, consult a doctor to find out the cause.
Can a menstrual cup be used with an IUD?
It is not recommended to use a menstrual cup if you have an IUD.
There is a risk that the IUD string may move when the cup is inserted or removed, so we recommend talking to your doctor if you really want to use a menstrual cup for menstrual protection.
Your doctor will also decide if the string attached to the IUD needs to be shortened so that you do not pull it out when removing the menstrual cup.
If you use an IUD, we recommend using products such as Femi.Eko® menstrual pads or menstrual panties during your period.
Can menstrual cups cause infections?
Like all menstrual products, a menstrual cup, if used incorrectly, can cause infections.
However, please remember that menstrual cups are a safer way to get through your period than tampons or pads, as the cup is airtight and thus prevents bacteria from forming.
Always wash your hands with soap or use a hand sanitizer before and after inserting and removing your menstrual cup.
Empty your cup at least every 10-12 hours to reduce the risk of infections.
You don't need to lubricate the menstrual cup to insert it, but if you do, make sure you use a safe lubricant. Do not use harmful chemicals such as vinegar, tea tree oil, Castile soap, antibacterial soap, regular hand sanitizers, hydrogen peroxide, and other home remedies to clean the cup, and do not put it in the dishwasher, as this can damage the silicone and lead to infections.
After your period, rinse the cup with clean water or boil it for 5-10 minutes and sterilize it again before using it for your next period.
Store your menstrual cup in the cotton bag you received in the package.
Can I have sex while wearing a menstrual cup?
No, remove the cup before sexual intercourse. It is not safe to wear it during sexual intercourse as its tip can damage the vagina and disturb your partner. Instead, try using the Femi.Eko® menstrual disc, as it is suitable for sexual intercourse during menstruation without bleeding and without feeling it there.
Can a menstrual cup protect against pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases?
Remove your Femi.Eko® menstrual cup before sexual intercourse (and remember that the Femi.Eko® menstrual cup does not protect against pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases).
When should I change my menstrual cup?
We recommend replacing your Femi.Eko® menstrual cup at least every two years, although you can use it for up to 5 years.
We also recommend replacing your Femi.Eko® menstrual cup if:
– you have had a fungal or bacterial infection and used the cup while you had it.
– you dropped the menstrual cup into the toilet.
– you noticed a sticky or powdery film on the surface of the cup, or if the cup is damaged and cracked.
When should I consult a doctor about menstrual cups?
You should discuss using a menstrual cup with your doctor if:
– you use an intrauterine device for contraception (sometimes the string attached to the device needs to be shortened to avoid dislodging it when removing the menstrual cup);
– you have had TSS;
– you have recently undergone gynecological surgery, given birth, or had a miscarriage;
– you have a vaginal infection;
– you have never had sexual intercourse and are concerned about preserving your hymen;
– if you experience increasingly frequent cramps, bleeding between periods, or any pain.
Can I swim with a menstrual cup?
Yes. The best option is swimming, running, and living life to the fullest without ever experiencing menstruation.

Yes, the Femi.Eko® menstrual disc is designed with comfort in mind. When inserted correctly, it should not cause discomfort or be noticeable during use.

The Femi.Eko® menstrual disc is a single round shape with an outer removal loop, which is anatomically adapted for most cervixes, regardless of age or whether you have given birth.
Meanwhile, the delicate menstrual disc is oval-shaped and has an integrated removal loop, which was specially designed for teenagers, sensitive women, and women with a low or medium cervix. Both
Femi.Eko® menstrual discs are specially designed with a unique loop, making the disc easy to remove. We designed the disc with a removal loop in a unique way, knowing that removing a menstrual disc is perhaps the biggest challenge women face when choosing this type of menstrual product.

Yes, you can use the Femi.Eko® menstrual disc overnight for up to 12 hours without any risk. You can sleep comfortably and safely, without worrying about leaks or discomfort.
How do you know if a menstrual disc is full?
Initially, we recommend removing the menstrual disc after 5 hours to see how much blood has collected in the disc. Over time, you will know exactly when to change the menstrual disc. Everything depends on your body or the days of your period and bleeding.
What is spontaneous emptying?
You may experience some bleeding when going to the toilet. This happens because you contract your pelvic muscles and the menstrual disc, thus changing its position so that it acts as a self-emptying device: SELF-EMPTYING. This is a feature of the Femi.Eko® menstrual disc that helps keep the disc in place for full capacity use, without the stress of using a menstrual disc (note that a menstrual disc should not be used for more than 12 consecutive hours without washing it, although this self-emptying method is very easy to get used to). Always have clean hands, as you may need to insert a finger to push the menstrual disc into place behind the pubic bone. In most cases, the menstrual disc, once dislodged, automatically locks back into place, but you should check it for optimal protection.
Can I use a menstrual disc if I have a narrow vaginal canal or a low cervix?
Yes, you can. The Femi.Eko® menstrual disc folds in half, so when inserted, it is the size of a regular tampon. Once inserted, the menstrual pad will open slightly, but this should not cause any discomfort inside. If you have a low cervix, are a virgin, or have a sensitive bladder, you can choose the Femi.Eko subtle disc, which is anatomically designed for special needs.
Can I trim the menstrual disc removal loop?
The Femi.Eko® menstrual disc removal ring is designed not to cause any discomfort, yet be easy to grasp for removal. So, if you're thinking of trimming it, you might want to reconsider. If you feel the ring is causing you discomfort while using the menstrual disc (make sure to insert the menstrual disc deep into the vagina and try using it for at least 2 cycles), you may consider trimming the removal ring. Make sure to trim it smoothly so it doesn't cause any discomfort or internal damage.
How to clean and care for a menstrual disc?
You can clean your Femi.Eko® menstrual disc by rinsing it with warm water and an oil-free or fragrance-free intimate soap. Make sure to rinse it thoroughly before re-inserting it. You can also sterilize it by boiling it for a few minutes before each cycle or by using the Femi.Eko® sterilizer, which you can find in the accessories section.
How long does a menstrual disc last?
Properly used and cared for, the Femi.Eko® menstrual disc can last up to 5 years. This is an economical and ecological solution.
